Suicide Prevention in Texas legal advise?
I have a 30 year relative who has tried on a few occasions to take his life by drinking alcohol well beyond the legal limit. He is hospitalized at least 1 to 2 times a month. Has no health insurance and yet refuses to sign a DNR or get rehabilitative help. Can I make him get help? There are many programs if he volunteers, but I don’t think he’s in his right state of mind to volunteer. How can I go about getting him help? What’s the first step?
First of all I think he should go and see a psychologist. He maybe doesn’t believe it will cure his depression, but always remember that depression can never be cured. Depression can only be “forgotten” or milder if the depressed person keeps himself occupied without stressing himself and finds harmony. It is really important for him to open up and talk about his problem with a loyal person, someone he can trust. The person has to listen to him, show that he/she’s understanding and give him good advices in a calm way, without being aggressive! This is clearly how a psychologist would act like. But if he doesn’t want to see a psychologist, he should maybe talk to another relative who shows interest and wants to help as well. I’m sorry I can’t help you more than this
Oh – and don’t let him be alone too much for too long!
